Spartan word for the education and training regimen used to create “a class of warrior citizens” – strong of mind, unflinchingly loyal and physically unmatched.
Based in Sydney’s beautiful Bondi, AGOGA has been the Eastern Suburbs’ health, fitness and energy hub since 2012.

At AGOGA, we train everyday athletes. People balancing work, family, recovery and ambition, who understand that real progress comes from consistency, not just going hard in the gym.
A professional athlete’s approach to training goes beyond intensity alone. It’s built on expert coaching, intelligent programming, and a team approach that monitors technique, manages load, reduces injury risk and tracks progress over time. With over 40 years of collective coaching experience, the AGOGA team understands that performance starts with a body that moves well. We place strong emphasis on mobility, posture and movement quality to support strength, performance and life beyond the gym.

John and his team are exceptional. Every trainer remembers your name, there is no “bad” class, and the app is seamless and makes booking last minute super easy (important as a new Mum with limited -and often unpredictable free time!). AGOGA has made coming back to the gym post partum fun and accessible, while always challenging me (in a good way). Cannot recommend enough.

The cleanest gym in Bondi! Not only are the classes and instructors fantastic and a perfect workout, this gym is super clean - all machines and weights are ALWAYS cleaned after a session and it’s mandatory for towels. There is no other more hygienic or clean gym. Shoutout to John and Bel for creating and maintaining a healthy space. Highly recommend this gym.
I am a 63 year old guy and have found AGOGA an over all fitness gym , help full Personal Trainers , who explain all of the exercises and keep you on your toes and the class are set for 50 minutes so you can plan your day around your workout

Owner and Head Coach
John Field
AGOGA’s Owner and Head Coach, John, brings over 20 years of coaching experience to the Bondi community. A former professional beach volleyballer, junior tennis coach, and even a competitive aerobics athlete back in the ‘90s, John has also run his own martial arts dojo on the Gold Coast’s Main Beach.
Today, his passion lies in functional fitness, tennis and running – whether it’s fun runs, half marathons, or full marathons, John thrives on the challenge and inspires others to do the same. He has helped thousands of clients move better, develop athletic movement patterns, improve their mindset, and achieve their fitness goals through both group and personal coaching.
Beyond the gym, John is a sought-after educational speaker, delivering workshops and seminars on fitness, performance, recovery, and mindset.
Coach
Alex Rawlin
Alex hails from the UK and comes from a professional sporting family, where hard work has always been a way of life. She is passionate about the transformative power of exercise, not just for physical health but also for building mental resilience.
Her clients often describe a love-hate relationship with her sessions—she ensures they are both enjoyable and challenging, always pushing them to their limits. With a background in full-time performance training, Alex has a deep understanding of body mechanics and values the uniqueness of every individual she works with.
Alex’s ultimate goal is to help her clients and members master the art of balance in health and fitness.
Coach
Charlie Matheson
A former semi-professional footballer from the UK, Charlie has been in the health and fitness industry for several years, refining his coaching to work with a diverse range of individuals – including some of the world’s top athletes.
Working alongside elite performers has reinforced his belief that the foundations of training remain the same, whether preparing a golfer for a major tournament or guiding someone through their first gym program.
With a strong academic background and specialist expertise, Charlie is passionate about helping athletes and everyday individuals alike achieve their performance goals.

Jack Lane-Brownsword
Jack has been a qualified personal trainer since 2017, bringing a deep well of experience from both the gym floor and the world of professional sport. After earning his Sports Science degree from the University of Surrey, Jack went on to work as a sports scientist at AFC Wimbledon, helping elite footballers fine-tune their performance and recover smarter.
Originally from London, Jack’s sporting passions run wide – football, tennis, and cricket are where he feels most at home. In fact, his love for tennis started early… he once served as a ball boy at Wimbledon, giving him a front-row seat to some of the sport’s greatest moments.

Jack Woodard
Jack brings an elite sporting mindset to his coaching, shaped by academy-level football where discipline, structure, and consistency were the standard. That high-performance foundation informs how he trains, prepares, and shows up – especially when motivation dips.
Grounded in strength training, Jack believes real progress comes from repeatable habits, intelligent programming, and doing the basics exceptionally well.
More recently, he’s moved into the hybrid space, competing in multiple HYROX events across mixed and solo divisions – reinforcing a simple truth: preparation matters and consistency wins.
Now based in Bondi, Jack loves working with everyday athletes who want to train with intent, build real-world strength, and feel capable in their bodies.
